News from our local u3a …
Upcoming Events
- Open Meeting: our next Open Meeting will be on Wednesday 14th May at the Upper Hall, Cupar Corn Exchange. Our guest speaker will be Anna Day, Head of Cultural Services, at Leisure and Culture, Dundee Council. Anna’s career began in journalism, evolved into creative writing, and for more than two decades Anna has been working with authors and designers engaging in small and large cultural projects where story-telling is key. Anna plans to talk about Regeneration through Culture. A healthy Arts culture is increasingly viewed as the catalyst for regeneration, by bringing about the capacity to respond to change. What are the lessons of the initiatives of recent years?
- Interested? Please come along – guests will be very welcome, and refreshments are free!
- Annual General Meeting (AGM): our AGM will be held on Wednesday 11th June, again at the Upper Hall, Cupar Corn Exchange. We need to ensure a quorum, so members please note and come along.
- Sandwiched between the business of the AGM and the chance to get refreshments, Cupar & District u3a member Veronica Kirk will be giving a short talk on The Last Supper, by Leonardo da Vinci – and highlighting some of the copies of his original work!
Interests
Several of our groups are willing to gain members – whether you are interested in practical pursuits like art or craft, more bookish topics like economics or philosophy, or you want to experience the joys of dance or singing for fun – or perhaps you would love to meet up to go on film and theatre visits, or even go out cycling or walking. Be sure that you will find like-minded, friendly people. Whatever your interest, we can ensure that you will learn something – and have fun whilst learning! Our website has information on all our groups via this link.
Recent events
Our Members are celebrating: new members and our volunteers …
- In late March we held an afternoon tea for new and recent members. It was a jolly occasion – and those of the committee who were hosting the event were delighted with the positive comments and helpful suggestions from our new members. A big thank you to our new members!
- In early April, there was a meeting of Group Contacts with members of the committee. This was a good opportunity for those members who pay key roles within our local u3a to gather and discuss how to improve links and address issues. Group Contacts are invaluable in our u3a – managing the group, the venue and any rental fees. The discussion was very constructive and helpful for the future growth of our u3a.
- Incredible things happen within the u3a movement which are due to members volunteering their time, skills and knowledge. During u3a Volunteers Week, which runs from 1-7 June 2022, we will be sharing stories from u3a volunteers across the UK on Facebook, X and Instagram.
- Speaking of which at the AGM taking place on 11th June we will be celebrating the activities of the past year and inviting members to volunteer as Committee members.
